[00:00:02] Welcome to On and Off da Field, on cast team with a purpose. Rest assured your boy codes Boston, here we go stealers, here we go, here we go. Steal the nation, you know what they're stealing, let's see what they know it.
[00:00:15] You know it, and this year boy I'm gonna see you better live aka Coach of Reback aka The Football. Prodigy aka Mr. Football Mr. YBL lesson, we're in the beer to for another segment man. What's going on coach?
[00:00:29] I'm a man living in dreams, brother talking, talking sports and like and like. So you really purpose, we cover both sides at a ball right? Right, we cover both sides at a field, you know, on and off to field.
[00:00:40] Listen, we gotta especially guess what we call it in the little while. It's one of your homeboys, it's your old friend. I've known him for about 30 years and he's a classic story of... Marcus Thomas. Of Off da Field, yeah, Marcus Thomas.
[00:00:54] Classic story of a... of a... of a... of a... Somebody who struggled has struggled and didn't make it. Wow, and didn't make it. This is where we were playing the NBA. Didn't not make it. He's the thing about what we do on and out to field.
[00:01:10] You just... yeah, he said a struggle of somebody that... They struggle and did not make it. Not saying that he failed in life but in this aspect that we're talking about. We didn't make it down this way. Right? In that moment, those choices derailed his NBA dream.
[00:01:27] Which we're gonna get to that part too. Correct. So we got that coming up. So listen, what before he called it? Because we're gonna call it in a minute. So before he called it, look, let's update on the... Uh... we've got to NCAA Turbid.
[00:01:39] South Carolina, you come with who we say it, right? We call it. I think we... do we pick... Then we pick them? I call them. Did you go from the lead A to the 2016? When did you pick Newcastle? When I picked Newcastle, it was a sweet 16 because...
[00:01:54] No matter what. I said, I got North Carolina because I'm a fan. But other than North Carolina, Newcastle was gonna win it. I thought, for the man. For the man. And we all picked South Carolina. I thought South Carolina was the women from the game. Yeah.
[00:02:09] I don't think... do you think that... It's funny you say that. So let me ask you this. Just two questions I'll be talking to them. So I haven't said that we all knew South Carolina was the one. But the women, right? I thought...
[00:02:22] So what's LSU ever a consideration in your mind that they could win at LSU? LSU was in the mix. But you know, obviously they lost the Iowa. But I mean, they were in the mix. I mean, they were as good as anybody else.
[00:02:33] If they wanted... if they won the championship, I would not have been some... Or maybe the... The reason I asked for the... They would championship worth it. Right. But we had all pre-selected South Carolina though. Right. So it was like...
[00:02:47] Was Iowa ever a consideration to win it at all? Well, Caitlin Clark of course. Of course. You know what? What she was doing and she brought them to the championship last year. So you think that she was going to do it this year,
[00:03:00] especially what the year she was having. So let me ask you this. Nobody else. Nobody ever brought a... Missing pieces. Like, I would just two years in a row. They... they... you got a score like Caitlin Clark. They probably didn't... The problem with the option.
[00:03:17] Gosh, if they had a forward... Maybe a weird score type option. Down in the block. Yeah, they needed to know that the... The forwards and bakes they had were like... If they were wide open, they were going to make it. Okay. They weren't taking those side... 10... 10 footers. Right.
[00:03:33] But they needed... but he... he's my... he's my thing coach. And I agree with you. They did need somebody scoring. But also, they needed somebody on the other side. They're... they're... they need a big... They needed to block up the mid... Yes. They were sure.
[00:03:47] So when they played teams like South Carolina who was bigger than them, Right. They had somebody kind of... Not... they weren't dominating the paint like that. They can get away with it because they run and shoot three so much. But that's when the three's are falling.
[00:03:58] That... it gets you up with the game goes into that half course set. It's what you get. And you got a Camilla Card doesn't... down in the post. Killin' the... Killin' you. Killin' you. So that... that was a difference.
[00:04:09] Their game was the three's and they weren't making them. So see, today needed... Something... I could say the B. I think... They were listening to another piece. Yeah, they were missing another piece. Because they come up show. And she taught to them. Now... We spoke out there. Um...
[00:04:27] Who was that that got to... To the... the... the... the... the... the... the... He loved it. No, what's team that they... No, it was a bad call at the end. Um... that was you. Was it... That I would be... The females. It was a bad call.
[00:04:42] It was a... this team had... Oh, you got... You got them. You got them to the team. You got them to the team. They were switching... Oh no. Hey, they... they... They... they... they kept her. Now we're tired of hearing about you, Con. Women but...
[00:04:54] You Con, women was... They came out to... Bro... They really should have... That should... I felt like that was a bad call. The office of Con, the... They caught it in. It was a bad call. You should have called it at that time. Yeah.
[00:05:05] Otherwise, you Con is going to the... Final four. Maybe so. And we got different... maybe a different... Where I don't think anybody could have been South Carolina. I don't think so. It's South Carolina was undefeated. I mean, the... And only this year because of Caitlin Clark and the...
[00:05:20] The surprise of women's basketball is the reason why... An undefeated South Carolina team goes under the radar if he will. They should have been the top story all year. Don't say it's underrated. Much so. Very much so. And she'd have best female college coach, regular.
[00:05:36] She's the hottest one. Got to say? Yeah. By far. So you said something of air too. I like Kim Mokie and LSU too. I do too. But you said something about Don't say it. You see it. Remember we spoke and you said...
[00:05:50] If you were the... the AD at Virginia, what would you do? I break the bank in high school. I don't know. I don't know. The AD at Virginia. What would you do? I break the bank in high her right now. Why? She's an... That's all my mother.
[00:06:04] She's an alumnus. And she's from Philly, right? She's from Philly. Okay. She's an alumnus of Virginia. Right. So that would be coming home. And you get to think as an AD. You want one of your alumni making another program? Great. Yeah. Bring her home. Break the bank.
[00:06:20] You have... what if a Virginia women's program about right now? What do you hear about them? Right. Are they on the map? They're the ACC. Yeah. They're the ACC. And the genius in the ACC. Yeah. In that... Yeah.
[00:06:35] But it would be close to the home and it would be alumnus. And I would make her the highest pay coach in basketball period. You know, I think they try to do that now. I think they... I think they try to... well, with dogs...
[00:06:45] With they trying to do that now, with dogs. They... I mean... So Carolina is. But if why are you not in the mix Virginia? To do the same thing. Do you think so? You're not doing that ahead of anybody else making an offer.
[00:07:00] Do you think that they're even considering that Virginia? Oh, I don't know. I'm not in the AD's department, but I know if I was here, you can't know what that's what I would have done. Wow. Well, I'm far. So how many championships does that give? Don't they?
[00:07:18] I think there's three. Yeah. Three. Like five. Right. Because before that, you cons women dominated. You cons women? For the executive years. That's right. Back to back. Nobody could beat the dog. The dog's daily came on. And Kim Mochi. It was Kim Mochi at Baylor.
[00:07:38] And then now the dog's daily at South Carolina, which basically kind of gave you your competition. Dude. And I know you saying... If you were Virginia, you do this. But it from Don Staley's standpoint, from her perspective. You got the key to the city.
[00:08:00] You would have the key to the city in Virginia too. But what do you think she is? You think she'll move? I don't know, bro. Well, I mean, that's her ultimate assertion. Anyway, I'm just saying if I was the AD, I would make a strong... You have to.
[00:08:14] I mean, I would want her to lead my women's basketball program. Because that has to be an incentive for her to leave South Carolina. It's not like highest pay, coach basketball. I think what you're saying, but like say the level of talent she's got, right? With the recruiting.
[00:08:31] It was true anywhere. But would you lead that Virginia? Virginia is as comparable a school to do recruiting as South Carolina. Okay. They have the facilities and the wherewithal to be anything just like South Carolina is. Right now. Okay.
[00:08:48] If Dawn's daily leads, then South Carolina becomes Virginia and Virginia becomes South Carolina. Okay. That's how that's how it's going to work. So if I'm the AD at Virginia, I would hire Dawn's daily, make her an offer. She couldn't refuse. She can't refuse. Okay. So all right.
[00:09:07] All right. So on the near side. Oh yeah. I totally. Who con? Gosh. Dynasty. Bruh. Six out of six out of six out of six out of six out of six out of six out of six. Right. Dynasty. It's a real dynasty. They tough, bro. Tough.
[00:09:22] You know, Coach early man. I'm gonna say this. I thought NC State would have given and I'm going back, back up. This is not talked about you come for a second. Talk about NC State playing Purdue. Yeah. I thought that Big Burns was going to get.
[00:09:40] He looked out of shape. He looked tired. Like I've seen Big guys playing, but he looked tired. How did he? Like struggling to get up and down the court. It didn't turn out like I thought. Yeah. I thought he was going to give them more problems down low.
[00:09:55] No. He looked like he was a step slow. Like he had been out all night. And I'm not saying he was. But they didn't look tired. He didn't have that same bounce in the stuff that he had. Yeah. Yeah. He didn't. Yeah. The guards.
[00:10:09] They were that they heavily relied on. They were, you know, they were missing their shots. They were involved. Right. So, you know, combination of the two and then Zach E. Down low. That was it. Eady was crushing. Eady was crushing. Eady let him know. A. I'm down here.
[00:10:26] He dominated the post. I thought he was going to break him down. I thought Burns was going to break him down. I think he's going to get him in file trouble. We both out there. I thought if what we didn't know which Burns came to play. Big fella.
[00:10:39] I think big fella gave it. I'll be cool down a stretch and they caught up with him. I got a room in the NC State was like, I think a 500 to 500. Right. They were sitting in the real store and they came for getting into the city.
[00:10:51] And we went all the tournament games to make it to the ACC championship. So, they had to play in the ACC championship. Now you see why he burned out. Yeah. He was just big fella. And I'm sure they celebrated it and final four had, you know,
[00:11:05] and the change and travel. And you know, all that. Yeah. I just warmed down. I mean, that was it. You could tell in their shots they were coming up short. And that means you tired. What year is this for Burns? You know?
[00:11:19] I'm not sure about I want to say he has another year of elder brother. What'd you think he looked like? He'll be devastating in that. Yeah. Yeah. I think he will though. Well, I'd sub to him. If he wants, he's got to get in shape.
[00:11:33] He had to get in shape. Got to get in shape. Got to get in shape. You keep saying that coat. Because it matters. We're talking about all the field. If you want to play any NBA burns, you got to get in shape. Afterfield. Yes. That's it.
[00:11:47] You can't keep the pork chops and all that. You can't. You got to watch diet. You got to get in shape. Get your cardio up. Get yourself in the gym. The cardio. I think the cardio. You'll kind of with big dad. Oh man. You see he was winning.
[00:11:59] He was winning. He was winning. He was he was he was he was he was he. You saw you saw my goodness. You saw my goodness. You win the gym. Yeah, he was tired. He was tired, bro. Yeah. They had to kind of dish rag that the end.
[00:12:16] He was on this rag not that the end. Yeah. But listen. So with. Back to the Champions. You can't. Yeah. They dog walked them though. They didn't even. They didn't even. They didn't stand a day. They don't walk. The dog who calmed was tough. Look, I'm from Jersey.
[00:12:39] And Bob Hurley's dad. Bob Hurley's senior. Right. Is a legendary high school coach in New Jersey. Okay. Legendary. One of the one national championships. And and and so Bobby. Comes up. And he's a hell of a player. Right. He's a dude plays an NBA.
[00:13:00] That hardcore coaching style made him a great player. Okay. I believe that. But Danny had issues. Yeah. You didn't have the success. Yeah. Yeah. He had some you know, counseling issues. He. No. Going to quit basketball. Right.
[00:13:19] The thing that I think that makes him a great coach is that he's giving his players what his dad couldn't get did not give to him. He was that you give him that toughness and tough love.
[00:13:30] But you got to know that they, you know that I love you. Right. You got to know that the dare for you to right. And you had to be, you got to break them down. But you got to build them back up too.
[00:13:39] You can't be like Bobby, uh, vertical. That coach that crazy coach. Bobby, uh, who's the other basketball, crazy basketball. Because I can't think of that. You can't. No. Bobby, uh, the one that was uh, Jordan mentioned them all the time. They all were here.
[00:13:55] I was like, oh, I came in with his name. He was a hard, a hard, a hard, a hard, no coach man. Bobby, I can't remember his name. And he night. Bobby night. Bobby night crazy. Yeah. The general. But he was tough. But at the end, you know,
[00:14:10] it was all toughness and no love and players lost respect. That's exactly why I brought him up because you, you brought up being tough, but you got to bring him back too. You can't beat him down. That's what makes him. I've been to the coach.
[00:14:20] I've been to the coach. I've been to the coach. I've been to the coach. I've been to the coach. I've been to the coach. I've been to the coach. And he early, I such a good. He wanted to choke him. Bobby night wanted to choke, Bobby night.
[00:14:31] You're watching a cool. That's what we do in open. Yeah, that's all right, so you, we, we, we think you can't be who we, you know, yeah, they look good. So everything I've voted like we talked. They look real good. Dominating. So real quick, NBA update man.
[00:14:47] I want to get NBA update real quick. We're going. We're watching. That's from ASK, who you got? Who you got your own? I like Philly now with Embedys back. I saw him be first game back. Embedys? He did. He did.
[00:15:07] A little bit out of shape, which he had played in. He hadn't played in Dissac Sergers. He's playing. But he was he looked good. He looked small. Big man, I don't know if I ought to came back this soon though. I know. That's true. He's so cool.
[00:15:22] And he's such a big guy. You know, an awkwardness of a fall with his knees? Yeah. I don't know if I feel like that. That are back worse. Yeah. That's what I was saying. I wonder if he can relax as well. Yeah, it'd be interesting. That'd be interesting.
[00:15:37] What you think about me walking? Yeah. I think, well let me say this. I mean, the culture was, you think about the question? No, no. You said at one time that a Milwaukee needed something. They were missing the people. They needed a glue guy. Somebody like it.
[00:15:55] Somebody like it. You got to float. Somebody like it. Do the dirty work and get stuff done for them. Like I had said, what is Draymond Green went to a Milwaukee box? It would be the perfect fit. You know, you'd bring it name right? The neck.
[00:16:10] The hip of this neck. The neck. The neck. The neck. Raymond Green. No, it's you get around and take. But tell me what, what do they mean? What did they like? That's what Raymond given me. Leadership. He would give them some sort of leadership because obviously you've got
[00:16:31] Yannis and Lillard. So he's got two veterans that can kind of rain him in a little bit. So respect to Dr. Rivers. Right. And right now they don't have that dirty. Do you? Do you think they need him strictly for defensive and rebound purposes? Absolutely.
[00:16:52] But because, you know, you don't have one score, but at one point, Draymond Green. Draymond Green takes his points and that's what makes it kind of garbage points. He takes his points when he gets his. Right. Kind of. But what he's out there for and he knows it.
[00:17:06] He's office rebound. Defensive rebound. That middle of the passing. Scream. Right. Making sure everything goes right. Yeah. Hot screen picking road. Driving. He's the glue. Right. He's that glue guy. He does a hell of a high picking road now. Oh, absolutely.
[00:17:22] And you and we're having a stuff again. We're having a little. That's what I said. What do Raymond Green wants to do? That's what they need. It's not that Dr. Rivers is a bad coach or anything else. It's they're missing that one person. Right.
[00:17:38] But you got me stuck on on Draymond and day in the house picking road. And day in coming out. The same shot, different uniform. Yeah. Do you put Lilip well now? He's not close to it. He's a shooter like Steph. But he's not a shooter like Steph.
[00:18:02] The only one step. Only one step. This is our calling. What's going on in our Mr. Marcus Thomas? How you doing sir? We, I am wonderful sir. I am wonderful. How are you? I'm amazing. I'm welcome to all the now to feel man. MTMT, TmT, TmT. TmT.
[00:18:23] Thanks for having me. Yeah. Listen, you know we got that music bumping in the back. That might remind you of that Memphis man. You hear that music? That's our theme music. That's the theme music. He rock stars. Yeah. Yeah man. We're so mad.
[00:18:38] Listen, I was just telling him. When we were talking and we were telling the people that you were coming on. And the listeners, he was just telling me a little bit about you. And we're going to die right in there.
[00:18:49] But I was telling him before I'm going to prophecy with this, but I'm going to give you this. You are Memphis as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to give you that. I'm going to give you that big die. What's the name of the title?
[00:19:01] What's the name of the title? The name of the podcast is the name of this segment is the Marcus Thomas story. Memphis. That's the name of this one, right? So it's dead. Yeah. Yeah. Because you listen, but we're going to die in just some things.
[00:19:16] But let me break the ice with this. I got to get you know what you need. First of all, LB. We all right now. We all right now brother. Okay. We all right now. We all right now brother. We've been popping from my dad a minute. Yeah.
[00:19:31] So listen, I want to start with this because I let LB tell his first and then I want you to tell us what your is. We always start with a favorite NFL team in Y.
[00:19:42] So I won't, I won't, I won't be on the lens to start with his. Mr. Favorite NFL team and tell us why? The Pittsburgh Steelers in 1976, my dad took me to a New York Giants football game. He played for the Giants.
[00:19:57] And so he took me to my first football game. McKinley ball McKinley ball. Shut up, McKinley ball. Shut up, McKinley ball. So we go to the game and the Giants are playing the Steelers. And the back story is I'm color blind.
[00:20:11] So I couldn't see colors at all at that time. So in the game, the Steelers come out the tunnel. They come to the locker room and I'm like, wow. Look at the black and go uniform. I'm six years old with trippling. You both beat up with a jay.
[00:20:24] You beat up with a jay. Right, right. I'm like, yo, I'm like, that made me a fan right there. So you traded on pops. I traded on pops for the Steelers. That's my second favorite team.
[00:20:35] Let me ask you this real quick before we go before we let Marcus tell his what did your dad say? What did pop say when he was going to win? He never tripped. He never tripped about the following. That's the, he's your dad's still a dot hot.
[00:20:47] He's, he watched the Steelers do. Any watchers Giants. Okay, so he kind of go back to that. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, all right. He knows my love of the Steelers so he supports that. All right, so look, Mr. Thomas Marcus. What's the favorite of the NFL team and why?
[00:21:01] Tell us why. Well, my favorite team of the Steelers on. Okay, so I got two steel and they should be with you. Yeah, man. We're going to keep it all right. Why is that your team? Growing up in Memphis, man, we had two teams. Cowboys and Steelers.
[00:21:17] So you had to pick man. You had to pick early. You got to know early in life and maybe you know. And I picked the Steelers, then my mama, my grandma, my mother. Or did that Steelers go from that JC pin to cow lones?
[00:21:30] You know, they get it from the cow lones. Thanks. Some of them play too. That's the real deal with the JC pin. You're the JC pin to cow lones. That big thing. Right, man. Right, next to him. That's kind of long. That's right, right.
[00:21:44] That's just a serious one. You're going for a war. That's right. That's right. That's right. And I had the Steelers one and my little cousin. He's a cow boy, Doward. Very right now. And he ate cowboys. So this is good.
[00:21:59] I got to say this because this I like to talk about regions. You mentioned you said living in Memphis. You had two teams that got chose. Dallas or Pittsburgh. Well, now I got to ask this question. Why were they the two teams? Not why wasn't it. Um, um,
[00:22:20] Just named I mean, why wasn't it somebody else? I'm just asked. Well, you got to look at the demo graph because that's what I wanted to hear. And no, the regional gang, the other still is there. No, they come on a toilet.
[00:22:34] Oh, so we got to hurry up and get home for church. You know, growing up in Memphis, you guys go to church too. Right. That's it. I love it. Like I said, yeah, shout out to Mamma. Mamma them all went maybe good and said. Yeah, you were good.
[00:22:51] Shout out to Mamma, man. Mamma the Memphis Mamma. Yeah, so speaking of Mamma's real quick one said a shout out to Mark that month. She's not really doing too well but she's in there. She's still with us. Wow, shout out to Grandma. Yeah, shout out.
[00:23:05] Shout out to Grandma before we'll thank you. Yeah, sure. Yeah, sure. Oh, you know. It was a certain time at noon. Well, the still is came on at noon. Top of us coming on that three. So you got crazy. You know, in I area.
[00:23:21] Let me ask you this. Let me ask you the who's your favorite stealer of all time. All time has to be Lynn Swan in his personal for me. I love her cousin. My neighborhood in Memphis right now. Those who are listening can tell you that my nickname,
[00:23:38] I know who was called Baby Swan. Oh, could you explain why please, sir? Because I never drive one. Oh, nice to work. Yeah, yeah, that's the work. So Street 5 on Memphis legend too. Oh, no question. No question about it. So, so look.
[00:24:00] And so that's your favorite play of all time. Oh, no question. Mr. Lynn Swan. Who's your girlfriend? Me and Joe Green. Me and Joe Green. Me and Joe Green. You got this, uh, you got this, uh, Jerry's a true friend. Of course. Yeah, man. Got this Jerry's.
[00:24:16] I got this teacher. I got this man. He do's when I say still in Mason like they for real, bro. Yeah, if you're listening to these dudes, the philosophy of the body. It's a lifestyle. It's not just a Sunday thing. It's a lifestyle.
[00:24:29] You can pull up on coach, uh, it coach career now. He got a sofa and he's got a Pittsburgh still a good time. No, you know, Tyler beat. Just across the couch, bro. He got still a memorabilia every day. He was still a crazy guy.
[00:24:47] So let me show this real quick. And this is just me as I got to ask this because he's my opinion. I think that, um, Last one and John Starworth may tear a brush on who he is. That's just my opinion. Right.
[00:25:05] It helped to have two great receivers. I mean, but he was a good quarterback. He wasn't a squirrel. There was a way. Jerry brush out they would he had to do. He was, he was, he didn't have to be the, you know, the all-American guy.
[00:25:20] He had to do what he had to do. It's the ball. He had, uh, he had to manage the game. But he might play his tune. He might play. Okay. They didn't beat up. I mean, brush out of Mason play.
[00:25:32] I think about Kenny Picked playing on that team. Woo. So he, I mean, his body, think about his body. I would have loved to have brush out this year. Yeah. We need to talk for the bad guy. Right. I love to have brush out of him.
[00:25:48] That's why big Ben was so good because he could take that lick. You keep on taking that, he was being like, big Ben with throw. Big Ben was throw out. That's why he was off. He was off, but he was doing. Right. And he was a leader.
[00:26:00] He could make the plays when you needed me needed. That's the only quarterback. That's the only play. Big Ben, the only quarterback I know that can pack the ball 10 times. And then five people who come swatted. I mean, we ain't go out of hand, right?
[00:26:14] You don't have to make me the whole on today ball. But you can so nervous. But they took a bit of him or fucking throw it off. Yeah, chuckle with a pump, fake it five times. You know, camera be gone in the big.
[00:26:25] The biggest deal got to ball this day. He trying man, trying to make some happen. He's trying to make some happen. He's trying to make some big money play. That's why they call them big. Yeah, this money. Listen, I got to go with this question right here.
[00:26:37] We're going to run to some sports questions right quick. I got to ask you this. Russell Wilson adjusting figures. Hey, Russell Wilson right now. Two weeks here. So let me ask you this. When they come out of practice and they're going to lock the room.
[00:26:52] Who wins in the shower? Justin Fields, Russell Wilson. I'm going to see Eric. He's a superhero. Yeah, he's a real round. You know, you hang out with Russell more than he did. Yeah, so listen. So you originally from Memphis right? Yes, I am from Memphis.
[00:27:17] Okay, no, what are you living at now? So I live in Minnesota but has a Christmas. My grandmother, my mother, and she broke her here. Okay. So I'm here really assisting living with her here in Memphis right now. Okay, but your home is in Minnesota.
[00:27:38] But you're originally from Memphis, but you do move. Originally from Memphis. Moved to Minnesota. Yeah, moved to Minnesota, but I moved back here for last six months and just trying to help out. And be here. You know, we were raised in church.
[00:27:52] We were raised to take care of family too and basketball sports is a family. Right. And so you learn those things and then you apply them to your life. That's good. So what do your thoughts on South Carolina being now?
[00:28:05] You know, to be honest, I like the on-stately and her team and I think that's the total team. I mean, that's what you want to see. You see how they coach former player. But you see how those kids respond. Right.
[00:28:22] And 38 and no, I mean, I didn't expect them to lose. We was talking about that early. Yeah. And I'm going to say this to you. Same thing I kind of say at the coach. At number S. this question. Because you know, we had contenders were South Carolina LSU.
[00:28:37] I were Yukon with the women's. Was that ever a time where you consider LSU possibly winning it all over South Carolina? South Carolina has the best team. Okay.
[00:28:53] When you look at the team, it's like a machine that and it goes and it goes and it goes as he changed his players. Right. And then you have to give Don Stanley her fly was because it's hard sometimes to coach that team concept.
[00:29:09] But when you look at Don Stanley, the motion picked up the momentum picked up. Those girls won all those games. Right. And you can look at the coaching part. You can look at how she got it. I mean, you know, they say coaching is easy.
[00:29:26] But I don't know. I mean, she's a heck of a coach. That's right. She, I think, of course we can all agree. Player coaches are the best coaches. I don't care what sports you play basketball for. Particularly the point guard. Right. Particularly point.
[00:29:41] That's why you're taking multi in her or two of the better coaches and in college. And what's his name for the coach for Golden State? Steve Kurtz. Steve Kurtz. Steve Kurtz. Good coach. Yeah. Look at that. Players coach. Yeah. So I said this.
[00:29:57] Mark, I said this to coach off, off, off, off, I said, uh, Don Stanley is underrated. Yeah. It's very muscle. You said it was. Yeah. I mean, all agree. She can really coach a guy as team. Wow. You could trust her. Usually. So let me know. Now, that's.
[00:30:17] Hold on. No, you can go. I know. You mean, just, we have this question. I'm just asking. We had this question. We had this question. And I was going to ask this. We had this question. Could, could, could, don't Stanley coach at Kentucky?
[00:30:29] Don, Stanley, I was about to say because go straight to Kentucky right now. I would say I was in my son there. You mean to, you mean to men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men, men.
[00:30:41] I would imagine with John Stanley and show that he left someone on the table. Galapari? Wow. I would say we had to respect him. She would have to respect the men. She would have to respect. I would say, I'm absolutely. Absolutely. I would want my son now.
[00:31:02] I would want to say, all the heavy, bro. But, legend, I was going to say on the whole of the level. She could go to the NBA. See, oh, absolutely. She could. She could.
[00:31:15] And she could, she could be a lot of those coaches that are coaching in the NBA. They really want. And the reason why I'm not going to say the WNBA because I expect the WNBA to have her next Eat. What? Okay.
[00:31:29] So you brought, you just brought up some because LBC this. And it's in the same vein. He said that he was the AD for Virginia. He would break the bite to get down, Stanley. And her house is in the driveway right now. Yeah. I would be.
[00:31:52] If I would have probably been my feet there right now. That's his alumnus. I mean, she's an alumnus for Virginia. She's home. But my home, Marcus. But you're going to lose her to the dollars. Now listen, the reason why I say this is because
[00:32:06] Think about the Vegas team. I got to, I got to match their intensity. How do you beat that Vegas team? Dawn's there. This is why the WNBA right now. Think about it. Guess who'd be your first peak where she goes. She gets Katelyn Clark. Wow.
[00:32:28] Well, Vegas got a coach. They ain't going to. No. Another team. He's on another team to match Vegas intensity. You have to take Dawn's say. All right. Correct. Correct. And draft Katelyn Clark too that team. I got you. How old you beat Vegas? Correct.
[00:32:47] You have to match their intensity. Right. If she goes WNBA and if she goes, But if she goes to college, she could go Virginia, women, makes sense. Yeah. And I think she could. But Kentucky's doing. But here's the thing, Marcus. Yeah.
[00:33:02] Let me tell you what, let me tell you what terms are there. We're talking about something that's bigger than everything we're talking about. We're discussing Dawn's say. Right. Right. Over all sports right now. Wow. They must be. We're skipping over. We're skipping over. We're skipping over.
[00:33:17] Me and sports in general. Right. We're talking about her position in sports right now as a coach. And I think there's being so half off to her. Have to talk to the girls. Don't get it. But his. He is why we talking about it. Because look listen. You.
[00:33:32] I'm interested to coach you. Well, if you years ago, you couldn't did the same thing. So I kind of don't do a now. You can't win. They would dominate me. Basketball. So so now they would have talked to the town in.
[00:33:42] She should be the top of the town right now. Dawn's say because what she's done, man. I'm defeated. But and that was no. That was never. I think at the beginning. What are we on the feed it last year? Facts. If we're in Clarkwood. It's crazy. Yeah.
[00:33:57] So you can't. You can't. You can't discount that bro. She's a great coach. So I never said that and then we get off it after this. Why do you lead? Why does she lead you so I can't. I mean to go. I mean this. Well, this is.
[00:34:10] The reason. I mean it's like Taylor Swift. You. You wasn't a Swiftie but you now you are. People say if you're not a Swiftie like what's wrong with you. So you think about Dawn's daily on the whole. Another level as a person at the coach.
[00:34:24] You won't hurt around. Hey, I won't. I don't. I don't. If I have a law and service, I just want to show up so people won't get that glass. You know. I'm saying. I'm saying. I'm saying. I'm saying. I'm saying. I'm saying. Give me two schools a dollar.
[00:34:42] Say. That's a play my world. You know. Right. She's everywhere and if you're smart. You want a little bit. She wants something that the relevant. You want. Right. That's your style. You know. And her era. I mean, you can. That's not right. Now I can smell the oil.
[00:34:58] Say, they're ready. They need to pay her. They need to pay her. They need to pay her. That's right. I'll bring the bank. If you don't, do you stay as I can around the man? You don't know if she's thinking. I think you take the money.
[00:35:11] Go somewhere and take the money. Virginia, though, Virginia got to step up. Nobody from the, like. I'm saying if I was a, I don't know if the AD is even done this yet. So I don't, he's got to, I don't know what he's thinking. Wow.
[00:35:24] So Mark, let me ask you real quick if you was a GM and you got the first pick. Who you taking first, Caitlin Clark or Camilla Cardosa? Caitlin Clark. Okay. You got to take Kayla. You got to take Kayla. You got to take Kayla.
[00:35:36] You got to take Kayla, bro. Okay. See the best suit. I got no problem with that. Yeah. Right. I'm looking at it like this. She got the best skills. But I want to sell tickets. And I want to sell tickets for the next team of you. Right.
[00:35:50] You're right. Yeah. So Mark is. Yeah. How did you get started in basketball? You know, tell us about the history of Memphis and basketball, man. And I know that's a loaded question. And even want to talk about the challenges growing up in Memphis. Well, Memphis, man.
[00:36:08] So how do you get started in basketball first? Yeah. And Memphis, well, it's like going to church. Like we said earlier, you know, it was something that was right there. The Bible, the churches, the Cadillac, you know what I'm saying? And around basketball is right there.
[00:36:22] And I was fortunate and blessed to be able to play the high level of young age. Being 12 and 13 years old, we played for the high power A-U teams. They're of your Baptist church. So I got to the A-U team. I got to pause you back there for Mark's.
[00:36:40] Because I always tell the coach, man. The A-U. I never knew how pivotal the A-U was as far as what it did to help transition young men. I never knew that. And I'm being honest. I never knew the impact it had.
[00:36:57] And really, when we had our phone call before, you were coach talking about it too, but you really sharing the light on it when you were telling me, because you've been in the trenches with it, bro. What? What? So shout out to the A-U team.
[00:37:13] Yeah, shout out because those guys, they found the raw child. You know, nowadays, you think about it. She's no how to play the game, but do they take time to practice the game. She's no more. Wow.
[00:37:30] You know, when we practice all week and you play the time and every other week, so they just play China. It's almost like you brought up a coach in conjunction with basketball. Let me say this. It's like basketball was just as necessary as church.
[00:37:50] That's right. It's a relief. That's a good ball. I like that. I like that, Mark. I like that, bro. Now, let's go. Who said you want to be better? That's what the count of... That's what I'm talking about.
[00:38:07] See, you know, we know everybody knows God is the greatest, right? But when I was saying no, the synonymous took him to make that comparative like that. To make because Memphis is mandatory for you to hit the court. You know what I'm saying?
[00:38:23] It's mandatory for you to get that raw ball. It's mandatory. And I could say, lifestyle. And what was the name of it? What was the name of the name of the spot that everybody gathered at in Memphis? Kind of like a rucker park. What was it in Memphis?
[00:38:39] Well, let me tell you some few spots. So I'm glad you asked me there. So I'm going to pay home as two or a couple of Memphis guys on the major scale. But I grew up watching in the different neighborhoods where I grew up. Okay.
[00:38:52] So we had a guy, Lawrence Castle. His nickname is Dr. Buff. He played with a guy named James Madison. His name is Master Blast. He played the fucking turkey in 1982. He was first where I peaked. When it's Kentucky, I played under a guy named LaFesta Rose. Okay.
[00:39:12] He went to Madison High. He went to Iowa State. And I think he did a 60 minute piece on reading that a fifth grade up. Okay. And making it through dollars. The chief hungry, Elliot Perry, played from Memphis State, work out. Well, go agree.
[00:39:29] I'm going to have Elliot Perry said. And it's Perry from my neighborhood. It's Larry Fitzgerald. Wow. That's right. They looked dumb. Phillip Dume Hayne. Yeah. Played from Memphis State. He only shot the ball up to back board. He only shot Baying shot.
[00:39:42] If you look at his footage on YouTube right now, he played with Andre Turner. Keith Lee will be in bed for those guys. And my friend Kenny Thomas, all-time lead score, Monastery High, and Cleopher's Hayes Junior.
[00:39:55] My points are who did win to Jackson State was all-time in CISC. Wow. These guys are Ben Parnell, earned a Smith, played from Memphis State. And I enabled him in Todd Dade. It went to Arkansas. Rollin' where it went to Oklahoma. Right. Name it up all the Americans.
[00:40:14] And these are guys who are like 15, 16 years old, 17 years old. And I'm 12, I'm 13, I'm 14, I'm 15. But I understand that I'm not at that level. Right. I'm looking at these guys. For you, I'm seeing these guys get better.
[00:40:30] I'm seeing these guys go away and play division one back to the ball. I see these guys. So growing up in Memphis, just like going to church following the Scriptures, I was following the ball as two. You know what I'm saying?
[00:40:43] So what was the spice when you got baptized in? They were, they were similar to Santa. They were all great. They're all great. They're great. So just think about baptized in them. Oh man, don't be scared. Put your hands up so they might feel speak of.
[00:41:01] And now man down in the real thing in Memphis. When you think about Memphis, you think about the big guys, right? Here we're painting hard away. You think about the big guy, Todd, they can shoot. Right. Right.
[00:41:16] We're getting the blood and she's alone by the key harm for Maurice Cannon. So now you're aiming these guys. I got to ask this question. These are these guys that you prayed against in junior high.
[00:41:27] Like I played against these guys at high school and in junior high school. There was a guy named Danny McMillan and Chris Ellie. Okay. Chris Ellie was recruited by Louisville by the any crumb. Wow. He was included just eighth grade from the any crumb Louisville fighting birds.
[00:41:48] They recruited Chris as an eighth grade. He's a younger than I am. Okay. And so Chris Ellie is also as McDonald's on American class of 90 and 91. Okay. Who the touch of junior high school? Who the touch of the school? Who would the touch of the athlete? Chris Ellie.
[00:42:04] Chris Ellie. Yeah. Yeah, he played with us. Rest in peace. I'm not a man here. Rest in peace. Rest in peace. Rest in peace. Yes. And they're going to do a meal here with this guy in the neighborhood.
[00:42:17] They're going to put one up and it's going to be beautiful. Wow. Shout out to him. That's the best. That's a good one. Yeah, yeah. That's the best. That's the best. That's the best. That's the best. I got an excuse because I want to move past it.
[00:42:29] What kind of struggles did you have growing up in Memphis? I mean in Memphis man. Kind of got a challenge for your boy. You know, growing up in the... He's a work. Yeah.
[00:42:38] And then you become a part of some of the things that's going on in the neighborhood. You're hanging out with a little too late. No. And I started selling drugs. You did. I did. What made you do that? I wanted to... I wanted to...
[00:42:55] I thought that I wanted to look the same way. And I needed to kind of money to... To be able to exist. I wanted to. Is that what you thought? Is that what you thought? That's what I thought. Okay. So, it basically... Because you would think that...
[00:43:11] Did you ever think about the fact that... And do... The average kid or the average young man growing up in Memphis... You got to go this track to make... To be successful. But you got to be patient with it. So, so you had...
[00:43:25] So basically, you said the word choices. You had the choice to either pursue a hundred percent basketball. Like you said, you committed... But then this kind of not true of your... A bad choice not true of the path, right? You know, the...
[00:43:39] The part we tell young people now that you... You're... You're worth more. You're more valuable. Understand because of your surroundings. You don't have to be this for that. You can be something special. The traffic from me is that...
[00:43:53] I watched people sell drugs and I thought that I was... Better than that. I thought like the sales drugs better. I liked myself to believe that... I know what I was doing with wrong. But then I'm not going to get caught. Let's... Let's sort of consistencies of, like...
[00:44:12] Like you said, the religion of basketball, right? Because I'm picturing my mind and Memphis to have his kid waking up... Like basketball on your mind. How did you do? Did you achieve your goals? And you're forced to flex or whatever you eat? You're the real one.
[00:44:25] You can't be encouraged. You want to... You want to... Either the... Either the gym or you go into the park. So I got... You know what I got? You got a basketball goal in your driveway. What I'm saying is... I got a real thing in my driveway.
[00:44:39] So it's like that... That needs to be the magnet. To keep you... On the course... To what you don't, DVA. You know what I mean? But like in every city, you got a lot of challenges. That's the challenge. That's right.
[00:44:54] But see one of the things that kept pulling me back in... Was that I could see the results of the older guys. I could see the earlier periods, the tie day. I know to you guys. So that was successful. What did you say? Yes.
[00:45:09] I'm watching those guys go up the ladder. Okay. And it's much loving, it's much respect. Because I know if I stay the cause... I'm going to follow with no shoes. I'm around the same people. I'm playing for the same age.
[00:45:24] You power out teams at their plan for it. Right. I'm just playing for the 15-year. They're playing for the 18-year. Wow. You little... You little... I'm not saying that. But you know... I'm on the trip with them. But I'm 15. Wow. But then you deal more eventually.
[00:45:40] Will you take that shit? Yeah. Did you win the championship? Yes, we do. When I got to 16 and under... Playing under those guys remember now. They've been beating us up since we were like 13 or 10 years old. Right. So now we're 16. Piny Hardaway, Randy Carter, Terry Adams, Dumbak.
[00:45:59] Anthony Douglass, Billy Smith. All-all Americans. And we're all... all Americans on this team. We've been hand-picked. We beat them in Bailey. Finally... In Indiana. He's an Indiana. Right. And Indiana... Manus... We beat those guys. Eric Montrose. Allen Henderson. Eric Montrose. I'm a man. Eric Montrose. What about the...
[00:46:23] We first won. Ha ha. Ha ha. Detroit's Webber. Right. Yeah. The Detroit Super Friends. Our Powerhouse. We played them 19 under and Florida. Did you know? We know... We lost the Chris Webber and Triple overtime. Hey, was it a beast for us? Was he a beast?
[00:46:42] He had 50s on. We gave it to him. He gave it to 50s. I mean you had. We had no... We had no business just 50s. No business. No business. No business. He was called... No business. He was... Was... Was he a beast for us? Yeah. Yeah.
[00:46:59] All of that. He gave you all of that. He could put it on the floor. He could shoot. He could pump fake in your eyes. He was like... He... He looked like a European that just came out of nowhere. Because he could play like a European.
[00:47:11] He could take the euro. Wow. We could shoot the shot. He could pose. That's right. He could play that you would bring that up. Because real quick, was... Telling is what we're born with. Right? Yeah. Yeah. He... He... He... He... When we talked about the kids nowadays,
[00:47:33] they don't practice the game. They just play the game. When you look at a young Chris wherever, when I played against that guy, you could tell he was practicing his game. How was it skill set? That's what I wanted to ask you about. It was at a team.
[00:47:47] It was at a team. And that was... Tim Duncan. Oh, my goodness, bro. Let me stop for a second. You're sitting in the butt of Tim Duncan, because I believe that... I know... Tim Duncan is... He didn't get to credit it deserve. They do got five... Five years.
[00:48:03] He was big time. He's one of the best boys. He was the best one. He won the best boy in the play. Exactly. But he was a... He was a bounce pass. Back... But he was a... San Antonio... The Spurs beat you with basic... Fundamental basketball.
[00:48:16] They won the best team. That was great. That was a great one. The most flashy thing about the Spurs... was the... was Tony Parker. Right. Roy, the head. What? Yeah, what's on the... The only thing I seen in Clash and San Antonio was the chef, ain't Bob. Exactly.
[00:48:31] And I'll be close. They were basic skill teams. But you were the bounce... Fundamental. Put Duncan to put you on a block. So he's hip. That's what he called the big fundamental. Before him, it was... What was the... The General Robison? David Robison. David Robison. Yeah.
[00:48:48] I met David Robison in Pensacola. Is that right? Yes. Because I was in the Navy. He was... I met David Robison in Pensacola. Oh, wow. Was that like... It was... I do this talk. But I met him. I met him. But I was bringing him up.
[00:49:02] You know, because the skill set is like... And I guess that's developed too when you play too naturally. Well, when it... When it doesn't have to always look Flashy. Right. When it can just be winning.
[00:49:15] And that's where we have to probably get back to young people now and tell them. YouTube is okay. But when we play in basketball, we're trying to win games. Right. And it may not look like you want to do a YouTube video. It might not look like that.
[00:49:31] We have to get back to the basics and get our guys here in America back to practicing the game. So let me get all this just go play. So let me get your opinion on... On Memphis being a hotbed for talent.
[00:49:46] How does do you think it compares to New York, LA, Chicago, DC? There was a time where we had division 1 coaches that was sleep and the parking lots and all the age you turned was I played in. Why? Why, Chishen, he's... You mean the no-law rich in that?
[00:50:06] They were trying to get talent. Is that why? Way he used to sleep in the vehicle. Trying to get there. Is that because they were trying to recruit? Yes. Because if they sleep at the hotel, they're going to miss the guy. Wow. So they were sleeping at cars.
[00:50:21] Did he mention Bobby Knight? He mentioned Bob Knight, did you? No, I didn't think Bob Knight. Okay. But I did. I did it, everybody. Okay. Okay. I got you. And John Thompson even got a kid. Kevin Millen. He got a kid out there in 91.
[00:50:37] So that's how hot Memphis was. Hey John Thompson, go ahead. He was cold. Yeah. And he was in Memphis getting kids. Yeah. So, you know, it's pretty hard to wait for out there. Todd, Dave brought that run. He reproved that severe grade. Bob Knight was down there.
[00:50:51] I can't take no credit for it. I just was in the right place at the right time. So, all of these guys that you know, because you named out of it. And then you kept name it. You named it harder a few times, right? Yeah.
[00:51:02] So, you went in with these guys. You and this, in this, but you and this vein of going to success, right? What? At what point? Because you brought up choices again. At what point did your choices cause your success to deviate and then you watched them
[00:51:24] and you didn't have to go. At what point did that happen? You know, the older you get, the more you start to understand it, this turns it to a business. Okay. People start to invest their time and energy, train their car, car coaches, car, car. Okay.
[00:51:43] And being a young person sometimes, you don't really know yourself work. Okay. You don't know that. Right. You don't know yourself work. You may be not approaching the situation the right way. Okay. You're not as focused as you should be. Okay.
[00:52:01] And then I started to understand when there was no crowd anymore around me. I started to understand that people left and start to go home. Because they started to understand that I wasn't worth maybe that next investment. That next investment was being won. All right.
[00:52:21] So when we get recruited at this point, right? Well, what did you say now? Were you getting recruited at this point? I was getting recruited at a high level but what happened?
[00:52:31] The great game of the rumors came out and the scary thing is, who you can't run from who you are. I got to ask you, what you mean, rumors? I got to ask. What's that in drugs? I'm selling drugs. People already hang out. Okay.
[00:52:51] Who you want this guy? He's a great player but do you really want this guy? Do you want an investment? We're about to invest in these other guys. Do we want an investment?
[00:53:00] And so that's how I went to junior college and Memphis because the legend birdy sales, who co-state She always stayed, he was Larry French's coaching high school. So he was a legendary junior college coach, but he was my AAU coach. So I beat him in those guys.
[00:53:17] And then he saw my true talent right in that space and he said, hey man, I need you at the junior college. I need you. So you went from... And I needed him.
[00:53:29] So when you had the junior college, I know you had mentioned you went to Arkansas for a little while. Was it there? Yeah. So tell us, now this is what I've heard now. The Coralist Weems and... Coralist Weems and... Who's NBA great? One championship at Arkansas.
[00:53:52] He has a nickname called Big Nasty. Right? And I thought it was because of his style of play. Oh man. Can you tell me something about that? Is that true? Coralist Emulation is Mark the Thomas Man.
[00:54:09] And you know, we were all hanging out and we would play pick-up. We would play pick-up games amongst the guys. And Coralist always got up and he didn't wear socks. His shorts were a little baby, two tights on time.
[00:54:29] So we gave him a nickname and said, hey man, you look, you know, nah. We would play that door. You know, that's the honest. He never liked it, man. But you know, we got... We had fun with it. He would laugh sometimes but that's how they got started.
[00:54:48] I'm not going to take 100% but I was in the lab when they were fake. Yeah. So you up in Arkansas with the guys that you grew up with and they're on the run to win a national championship. And so, so what are you doing there? Right.
[00:55:08] I'm there playing with the Rakesh Center with Mike Thali Singer. He's at the Rakesh Center playing ball with me and we're crushing it every day. We're being whoever comes in the gym without running them. That kid you beat that. Why? Because he's a track star. Right.
[00:55:27] You go to...from there from there Arkansas, directly you go to University of Louisiana Monroe. Um, a kid comes in to Arkansas and the transfer name, Howard Nathan. He's a number one kid coming out of Illinois in 91.
[00:55:42] He goes to the Paul and a place for joy and my senior junior thing for the Paul. And he stays there like one year, transfers to Arkansas. I meet the kid. Howard Nathan. Uh, you're a six two guard and the kids.
[00:56:00] I mean he had everything and those jumpshot. Uh, the up and none, but he could do it all as a guard, a point guard and the kid later went to northeast in Louisiana. Asked me to take them. And, uh, hey, I went down there with him.
[00:56:17] Spend six months and Monroe Louisiana with this kid. He watched him train, watched him get better and later the next year he got drafted by the Lada Hawk. Wow. Yeah, Howard Nathan shout out to Howard Nathan.
[00:56:31] It's not like Howard and you've got to shout out to my sister. Listen, no, no, no, these were to this person right here. Uh, what's the best player you played against that didn't make it to the NBA? Probably gotta be dynamic, Miller. Okay.
[00:56:48] I'm gonna say, Danny Mcmillan and Roland Weir. Are they for you? I'm gonna say Danny Mcmillan and Roland Weir. Yeah, from Memphis. Roland Weir was my center in high school, went to Oklahoma after Billy King. Okay. And, uh, play for Oklahoma.
[00:57:05] He was a McDonald's all American as well. Shout out to Roland Weir. Okay. Roland Weir. And, uh, he was six six man and he break the rim and practice. Ooh, six six. Big boy. Yeah. Big boy. Just a rim and practice. Alright. So, we called the road dog.
[00:57:20] Shout out why didn't you make it up to Washington. Yeah what happened to him? Uh, man, he played two or three years in Oklahoma. I think he got hurt. You know. You know.
[00:57:31] Yeah, it's an industry's man because like I say, he played with a lot of power and force. Alright. Now, these, we're gonna go with some bullet questions. I got my, and I got my opinion on these last couple of questions we got for you.
[00:57:42] I'm gonna get you out of here on this. Here we go, best player who died too soon. I wanna start. I'm gonna start with mine. I'm just gonna lean by us. That was mine. Good. Yeah. That's mine. Who else can you take up? They, they, they, they, they,
[00:58:02] they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they predicted that he would have been just as good if not better than Jordan. He was right. He was as good as Jordan and they, that's the same thing. He was talking.
[00:58:13] I'm gonna agree with you. I'm gonna say, lean by us because I remember all the dynamics that led up to his death. He was gonna grab the whole day. I was going to a summer league game. You know, in fact, they remember now we watched the draft
[00:58:28] and then we watched the guys, you know, we watched a couple of stays put to hat on. Right. So we could see the visual of him that thing. And, uh, he's like died right in front of our eyes. So, you know, shout out to his family.
[00:58:42] Oh man, you're bad. You're bad. You're bad for me, man. That's gotta be like I was there. You're not wild. You're a favorite NBA team. Lakers all the way, show time. Oh, well, you know what? I am mad at that. I don't know. Show time, Lakers.
[00:58:58] But, but is it a so new year? I mean, imagine me to like this man. I started with mad because I like the shack and the coffee years. I like the coffee, the song years of Devin George who
[00:59:13] won three straight was a kid that we play with in Minnesota. We just right. I remember Devin George. I'm out there. Yeah, Devin George was 15, 16 years old. And shout out to Khalid Elemyn. He was one of those kids, too, that would
[00:59:26] play the Connecticut who was on TV last night. Shout out to you, too. Oh, it was tough. Yeah. Let me tell you, I'm gonna tell your story. I was in Minnesota with, uh, the good markers at this time. We're at, we're playing pick up at Williams Arena
[00:59:41] and Williams Arena is where the go first play. So we got, it's Minnesota go first players and, you know, me markers. And so Khalid Elemyn comes in, he's in high school. Okay? Yeah. So one of the guards for Minnesota's talking smack.
[00:59:58] And so Khalid Elemyn comes a week, we start playing it. And this kid destroys everybody. Wow. He's in high school. Oh, this kid's in high school. Of course he turns out to be one hell of a player. Right.
[01:00:10] I don't know who you go see on his next week of favorite player. Oh. It's, it's magic in coping. You know, coping strategy. Left for shout out to Coco. Right. Right. Oh, but, you know, he's with us like that, but it's magic jar of the matter.
[01:00:30] Who is it going? The Bronner, uh, Jordan. I mean, the brothers of goat, because he's leading score. Oh, he's a goat. He's a goat. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. We can't chat with the boys for a week. We join fans. We join fans. We join fan.
[01:00:53] We join fan. Hey, man. There's a way up to them six seasons when he loves. Put that on the scale. We do it. I put it out on them. We do it. Take the high top. We do it. I'll say, oh, this is my opinion on that.
[01:01:04] This is my opinion on this. Well, the Bronner from high school to now. There's no comparison on career. There's no comparison. Yeah. No. I mean, between him and Jordan, from him and Jordan, from high school, from when he started high school, right?
[01:01:18] Freshly to right now, playing today, no person can compare to that. Okay. But. When Jordan was the best during them years of the bulls, when he won six championships, the Bronner's never got to that level. Thanks. Right.
[01:01:37] I'm totally agree with, but like you said, let's look at the entire resume. Put it on the table. Don't this get your pay. Yeah. Get up. I mean, I got my carolines stuff on now. Yeah. National championship. All American. He did. I'm a member of state fans.
[01:01:56] I can't say none, but you can look at my folder. But it doesn't match up to North Carolina. It does. It's okay. But it's okay. So I got, I got Jordan though with the goat bread. I got Jordan.
[01:02:07] KB Clark or Cheryl swoops and take your time on it. You got you, you got to whip one pick and you got one pick left. And it's Caitlin Clark and Cheryl swoops on the sideline. Who you take? Well, you get.
[01:02:20] I don't know how Caitlin Clark went to the IGN to be the left. First nobody on the sideline. I want them. They've been the best season in the semester. So I was on the sideline. Oh, swoops. Oh, swoops. Oh, my god. Best barbecue in Memphis.
[01:02:38] We got the best barbecue in Memphis. Cozy corn. Cozy corn in Memphis. Cozy corn in Chicago. Shout out to Cozy corn in Washington. They're eating this. Is this a strawberry? Is it a strawberry? Oh. Is it a, or like a strawberry?
[01:02:56] Maybe they need to have a lose of lead down, man. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. So what area is this? Cozy, what's the name of it? Cozy corn. What area? North Memphis. You got to say it like you like you live. You got to say Cozy.
[01:03:10] Cozy. It's a cozy. Cozy. Like you can't get up. Oh, god. I got it. I'm like, man, I love eating places. I mean, we're likely to go to places and just eat. Yeah. So like, but Memphis kind of rough dough. Mark, we can't do this.
[01:03:26] So then when we tell you, if something happens, then we can't get there. Let me take care. I got, I'm the best. You got it? You couldn't get that out of the kitchen. You got a better one. Making a big. I want to bet everything.
[01:03:39] We're going to get you out of here on this. And of us a BB King. That was a BB King. I got to go with BB King, Riley. Okay. I got to tell you. He said Riley. Yeah, BB King, man. I mean, he's a guy like us.
[01:03:53] So many of us people haven't heard of us. They don't know us. And because sometimes we get over shout-o. But then mean the music that sounds good. And then, who is? Who would win a steel cage mass between Icturner and Joe Jackson?
[01:04:08] Man, you ever see how I can not tune in? I'm going with it. I'm going with it. Joe Jackson got that struck. He got you on the top. No. Yeah, but Joe got me. I think he's getting right. I thought I'd get you. Yeah, yeah, he could.
[01:04:25] Yeah, I think I could get him. What about Dray Mongreen and Charles Oakley, who won that cage mass? I think Charles Oakley would take him out, because he actually can fight. Oakley can fight. Oakley, yeah. Oakley can't fight. I mean, now he didn't fight that night when
[01:04:40] he was in Madison Square on the ground. But I think Oakley can fight. I think he can fight. Yeah. Yeah. Him and me to World Peace. Me to World Peace was cool. That he was always. That dude was always fighting. But Phil Jackson taught him how to re-book.
[01:04:56] So good. That's good. Don't forget that. People don't know how to do it. I think you're going to be a good man. I don't need a book, but there you go. So you watched a whole new freak make. Doc, documentary? Of course. Are you on there?
[01:05:10] Have you seen the one? Let's just say I told my kids to leave a room. Yeah. That's right. You're freaking me. That's right. No, we do a customer. Let's do your favorite wrestling. My favorite wrestling, Jerry King, Laolin, Rick Clev. Okay. I mean, I love the nature board.
[01:05:32] Don't give me wrong. Who does it? Limit's in right and high for the time. Come on, baby. And I'm going to hard time keeping me. Keep it in these games. Come on. Woo! And I'm having a hard time keeping me. Woo! Woo! Woo!
[01:05:48] You know, well, what else could you do? Like about that. You know, but Jerry Laolin was a hometown Memphis family. You know, like Jack Prudet, you're a man. Pinging ligand. Pinging ligand. Pinging ligand. Hey, who are Biden versus Trump? Who's your winning? I'm going with Biden.
[01:06:04] I mean, there's no real choice. You won't caught a cheeses. It's our victory. Me. I love what you do. What would you do here first week of president if you were president? I let all the black people be white. Oh, no! Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness.
[01:06:27] Oh, my goodness. Oh, oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. Well, that's the best answer I ever heard. Well, hey, favorite mom was superhero. Superman. Why he's DC? No, Superman. Yeah, mom. Yeah, mom. Yeah, mom. Yeah, give me a moment. Mom, it's going to start. Mom.
[01:06:52] Oh, oh, oh, oh, my goodness. Go with Iron Man as well. No, no, no, no. I like the tone. I like the tone. Come on, bro. I told this dog is the OG. Right? You're a P. Yeah.
[01:07:05] And then they let the black group be Iron Man for a couple of shows. Two. So I really was like, yeah. Yeah. I got a cheeto. Right? Yeah. Like if I was his friend or something. You know, you know, can you do it for me? I'm busy.
[01:07:17] You know, I'm like, yeah. You know, man. Coach, tell me you were party bro. He said, let's let me take this is all in the field. And we're talking about choices today. Right. And what would you tell yourself 35 years ago? I was a state of course, believing yourself.
[01:07:36] You're more valuable than you would ever believe. State of course, trusting yourself. And believing yourself. I think when you're young, I think when you're young sometimes being a Jew. We know you got two minute Jew when the thoughts and you probably not thinking of the things
[01:07:53] that really are going to push you forward and like wow. All right. What would you know, your autobiography? If you had the title and why? I would name my autobiography simply Memphis. You know, the ELPA. I have Memphis making easy moves. Playing hoops and the style. Wow.
[01:08:14] That's how we live. That's how we did. You know, I'm the oldest. You know, I'm the oldest. You know, I'm the oldest. I'm the oldest. And it's time. I don't want to chat like we wanted to find cars. Hey, hey, you know, sometimes we wanted that quick money.
[01:08:27] Right. But all the knowledge is one thing. You know, and so I would change. So what in closing? What would you if you and obviously you've had your life and ups and downs and challenges? What message would you give the youth today to help them on their journey,
[01:08:46] to help avoid the pitfalls that you've fallen for in the past? I would really say, you know, believing something other than yourself. Listen to your parents. The streets. Things. Things. And while other people. Youngsters out here getting involved with. On on and off the court issues.
[01:09:12] I mean things that can incarcerate them for years. Things that can really change their life. They don't really know the impact. That's right. Those things can play. Right. And sometimes you really don't think it's that big of deal, but it really is. I just watched the Dallas Carter.
[01:09:30] Hiced the movie. Carter high school. What is that on? Yeah. It's on a, it's on two be. Okay. But it's the rockest plan to cook. But it was the 1988, they wanted to stay championship in Dallas, stayed football championship. And right after the championship,
[01:09:48] they had 18 players signed division one scholarship. Six of them went on and robbed. Make arm robberies. Oh, yes. Six of them. Wow. They, this was the judge said they didn't did more arm robberies than Bonnie and Clyde. Wow. They just want to stay championship. That's definitely.
[01:10:10] So I would definitely tell young people any little trouble is big trouble. Big trouble. That's right. The strategy is, but it says the small, what it says is small fox that rules the violin. So that's small fox that rules the right. And she'll come from there.
[01:10:26] But listen, Mr. Marcus Thomas man, you've been awesome calling in this world. And you are a man. Listen, I told you, you are Memphis bro. That's the name of this one. This is the name of this segment. You are Memphis man.
[01:10:39] We appreciate you for coming on with us man, taking the time out brother. Well, thanks for having me. Well, man, listen, I guess you want to say coach for me. For we turn Mr. Thomas a loose. Hey, here we go still in the skill and the situation.
[01:10:52] They're naced in the video. It's all enough to fear. We got, you know, we got coach over there with still a nation. And once again, it's been Mr. Mark. What's your nickname? The moose or nickname is the moose? I don't know. My nickname is the OTT in 83.
[01:11:05] MTT, okay, the TT in 83. That's what you said when he came out. Yeah. See, I ain't even ready to go. Bro, that's what's up. Yeah. I'm checking him back and rocking the roll of moving through. That's the blow of the two. We got let's see. Go on that.
[01:11:23] Hey, little police say to Marcus man, thanks brother. Yeah, man. Thanks, man. Yes or have a good evening. All right. Shout out to Marcus. That was yourself, brother. I'm not saying yeah. I mean, but when you think and obviously then going to specific detail,
[01:11:42] I'm just going to talk about it. What kind of job? The thing is you take. He's with a group of all Americans. Right. He's one of the better of the group. Right. And they all go on to play college basketball, have success, play an MBA, have various careers.
[01:12:01] But you know, he was the one that didn't make it. Man, listen, I want to say this man and closing shout out to Memphis, bro. We want to give Memphis a shout. Because, look up. The talents, the just, the young man.
[01:12:16] You know, the future hall of famous that's coming up, man. We shout out our heart. Right. Right. So we thank God for Memphis, bro. We pray for Memphis. Keep Memphis covered. Absolutely. And let them boys come out of their life in the talent.
[01:12:28] You know, and get they, they people out of the hood, man. So this has been Memphis, bro. The story of Mr. Marcus Thomas. It's served. Shout out. Listen, this has been on and off the field. Yes, sir. This is Coach Boston. Christopher, he regained the elimination. That's it.
[01:12:45] Still a nation. You're listening. This should what, Mr. U.S. You better hear him. Hey, Mr. Coach, we back. We're going to be able to put by our pro-liseate. We're in here. Listen, thank God for tuning in. And we out of here. These. Yeah.
