Cheyney University became the first and only Historically Black College and University to reach a Division I Final Four with a Championship appearance in 1982 led by Coach C Vivian Stringer and a Final Four appearance in 1984, led by Coach Winthrop McGriff, who was the first Black male coach to lead a women's team to the Final Four.
